MODERN VINTAGE

Some of the greatest inspiration I find out there comes from the concept to creation-style photography seen here. When a photographer with model(s) and a few fashion artists get together and collaborate their ideas on a project, digital magic happens. These stunning images have become the apex of fashion art. Though edgy, they still have that vintage feel . . . .

COMING TO ETSY

In stock: An ostrich feather attached to a dangling pearl-beaded ecru headband. Great for Gatsby-inspired and vintage looks. We call this piece 'Bonjour'
digital She/Sweet Light Studios

From hats to fascinators to veils, check out all my new summer head chic. I already have these up on the Amy-Jo Tatum website and am getting calls about the price and colors. We're still pricing these unusual pieces which is the reason they haven't posted to Etsy just yet but soon will. The good news is, custom orders can be placed for any color (or combination of colors) for most. Once these are gracing the online pages of Etsy, you will be able to view them up close and from different angles.

MORE THAN JUST AN OFFICIANT

Today I'm steering away from fashion to get into more spiritual matters . The distinguished gent to the left is Reverend Edgar S. Welty, my husband of many years. I want to talk a little about his mission that specializes in preparing couples for marriage. Pre-marital work is different than marriage and family counseling that often deals with divorce and separation issues. So what exactly is pre-martial?
Preparation for life together as a married couple. As a certified counselor in the Prepare/Enrich ® Program , Edgar believes marriage is one of the greatest turning points in life and preparation is necessary in moving toward a healthy union. Pre-marriage workshops and counseling done in a time-frame when the relationship is at it's most fired up point energy-wise, is often the ideal time to map out a future. Based on research, six months prior to and into the marriage are when couples reap the best benefits from counseling. The duress of many marriages can be the result of denial, bad habits and unrealistic expectations never confronted prior to that march down the aisle.
Edgar also performs custom wedding ceremonies. Over the years I've watched him marry couples with no more than myself and another witness, to all out bashes for hundreds. As an experienced minister, he's at home with different orders of worship from many other denominations (he's ordained through United Church of Christ). For inter-faith couples (which consists of most couples today) he works each tradition into the ceremony and has even co-officiated at weddings. If you live in or around The San Francisco Bay Area and are getting married in the near future, definitely check out his site where you'll find out more about custom packages and rates. Below are some photos from a couple of my favorite weddings.

THE EYE CANDY CORSET

Through June we're going to be exploring the corset craze. These beauties are built off long-line lace bras embellished with beaded lace and hand rolled florals. If I were a bride any one of these gems would be worn as outer wear. I found them in Vintage Opulence, a 1000 Markets, store. 1000 Markets is a site akin to Etsy with handmade items and eye candy shops like this one. You can see more choices by checking out Vintage Opulence

GROOM CHIC PART 2

Selix

Last week we explored the history of men's formal wear along with how easy it is for them to shop online. Don't you envy them? I mean, you don't find guys making the rounds of Selix and Gingiss with an entourage of groomsmen all comparing colors, shapes and textures. Nor do they blog much about finding their dream suit and how many different styles they had to try on before they found, The One. Read and see more images . . . . .

WEDDING IN BLUE

Wedding in blue

The title--Wedding in Blue--reminds me just how many monochromatics blue actually has. If your bridesmaids are going for blue, consider letting them dress them in various necklines, waistlines, etc., complimentary to each particular to each individual body type. And if you still don't like the-everybody-in-midnight-blue thing, try graduated shades of blue instead. Also think about accents. Blue can be worn as florals, sashes and belts, and for the guys pocket silks and ties.

BE BOLD!

Isn't it awesome to know it's okay to wear any shoe you want on your wedding day? And happily ever after? Designers are going with classics and vintage with a modern edge. It's a great era for footwear.

LE JARDIN COLLECTION

Dresses and Head pieces: Amy Jo Tatum Bridal
Make-up and Hair: Tricia Greenwood
Location: San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo, California

Gardens and weddings are so synonymous. And because it's always inspiring to work with gorgeous fabrics, 'Le Jardin' Collection was a natural. I used a mix of high lustre dupioni silk and lightweight chiffons, laces, tulle and cut velvet.

You'll notice I've used quite a bit of lace in these gowns. What could be more bridal than Chantilly lace? The above chemise reminiscent of the 1920s is in a mix of imported Chantilly, each woven in intricate florals and scalloped edges. Lace used discreetly, the dress below sports a generous kick pleat in back.

Topping off the look here is a net pouf hat in tulle with silk roses . . . .
Tulle and dupioni ball gown accented with a gray ribbon

Pure white dupioni and embossed chiffon mix well here in this sheath silhouette. The gore in back and tie work into a generous train.
The bird cage veil. The new chic in bridal.
I just had to do something here to celebrate boho. Growing up during The Summer of Love, it's a look I remember right down to most of the fabrics and accents. This dress has a bodice done in an assortment of laces. The belt is a gold embroidered peasant style. The topping is a head wreath of dried baby's breath and roses . . .

This white cut velvet drapes so beautifully that the moment I found it, this Grecian design came to mind. The waist is trimmed with white Chantilly Lace. Perfect for the smaller, outdoor wedding.

It was really a pleasure working with such a great group on this shoot. Scott Williams is a photographer extrodinaire, who captured the garenesque theme of this shoot brilliantly. I'd also like to thank Tricia Greenwood who put her special artistry to work on both makeup and hair. She's in the SF Bay Area and available for weddings. And of course I have Ari and Polina to thank, two knock-out models who wear my designs like a second skin. Thank you all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARILYN!

başlıksız
Every June 1 I do something in rememberence of and to celebrate Marilyn. Last year I wrote this about Marilyn, "Though she wasn't exactly a fashion trendsetter she was an icon who could work it with a few really great dresses. "
Did you know Marilyn had three real life weddings? For her first marriage her guardian managed to find her a full length satin A-line to marry boy next door, Jim Doherty. Her next two weddings were rush events. She married Joe DiMaggio in a dark suit with an ermine collar; Arthur Miller in a lightweight daytime dress with a fly away veil. My favorite Marilyn dress comes from her Arthur Miller phase, a cotton eyelet with a full skirt.
